Rimmel London, a well-known UK brand, is also widely available in the United States. Among its product lineup, the Stay Matte Powder is particularly popular, especially among those with oily and normal skin types. Despite having dry skin myself, I decided to give it a chance.

According to Rimmel, the Stay Matte pressed powder offers:

“Up to 5 hours of natural shine control, infused with natural minerals. It helps reduce the appearance of pores and is dermatologically tested.”

The packaging of the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder is a simple beige plastic case with a transparent lid. While the design is unremarkable, it secures the powder well and is convenient for travel.

Before delving into my thoughts about this product, I’d like to share a specific experience. Preparing for a wedding, I was pressed for time and couldn’t locate my usual under-eye setting powder. I grabbed the Rimmel powder sitting on my vanity and used it for my under-eye area. However, after about 3-4 hours at the venue, I checked my reflection and was dismayed to see how my under-eyes looked. As someone with dry skin and fine lines, the powder exaggerated the dryness, leaving my under-eyes looking particularly rough. It was quite disappointing.

A few months later, during the summer when my T-zone tends to get oily, I gave the powder another try. Unfortunately, it still left my skin looking flaky and dry. Even in the hotter months, it appeared overly cakey on my skin. Hence, I made the decision to stop using it and offered it to a friend. While I believe this powder may work well for those with oily skin, it is unsuitable for individuals with dry skin, and I cannot recommend it to them.

The formula itself is quite powdery but does not produce excess dust. It remains in the pan without issue. However, the shade selection is limited, with only six options available, leaving those with deeper skin tones without choices. I tried the Warm Beige shade, which typically suits me, yet it feels better suited for individuals with NC20-25 skin tones.

I am uncertain whether the powder includes SPF, but I noticed it can leave a grayish tint in flash photography. The coverage is decent, making it easy to set makeup, but its dryness is advantageous for oily skin types since it can maintain a matte finish for hours without needing touch-ups. The powder has a slight yellow undertone, which can be flattering for those with yellow tones in their complexion.
