Renowned Outkast artist André 3000 is venturing into uncharted territory with his highly praised instrumental album, “New Blue Sun.” Marking his solo return after almost twenty years, André presents a groundbreaking and reflective work that transcends traditional genres, expanding the horizons of his artistic capabilities.
“New Blue Sun” marks a significant shift from André’s earlier projects, demonstrating his musical journey well beyond hip-hop. Ditching the typical rapping format, André takes on the flute, creating enchanting soundscapes with a skilled group of musicians. The album offers an immersive experience characterized by improvisation and creative exploration, unveiling a candid and unguarded aspect of the artist rarely displayed before.
The production of “New Blue Sun” evolved naturally, much like the music itself. A serendipitous meeting at a health food store in Los Angeles led André to form a creative partnership with percussionist Carlos Niño, which ultimately inspired the album’s development. Joined by an ensemble of talented musicians like keyboardist Surya Botofasina and guitarist Nate Mercereau, they embraced a spirit of improvisation, allowing the music to emerge without constraints or expectations.
To commemorate the launch of “New Blue Sun” and foster a closer connection with his audience, André 3000 will embark on a series of intimate performances. The tour kicks off in Brooklyn, NY, on January 29th, followed by a three-night residency at the iconic Blue Note Jazz Club in Manhattan. Fans nationwide will have the opportunity to experience the enchantment of “New Blue Sun” live, as André and his band visit cities such as Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
