For countless music enthusiasts, playlists serve as the primary avenue for discovering new tracks and curating their favorite sounds. Spotify, renowned for its diverse and innovative music programming, is now extending its playlisting expertise into the thriving live podcast domain, promoting direct interaction between listeners and some of the most promising talents in the music industry. Lorem Life, hosted by Dev Lemons and Max Motley, highlights the vibrant and eclectic personalities featured in Spotify’s Lorem playlist, while The Most Necessary: Live, presented by Brian ‘B.Dot’ Miller, zeros in on emerging rap and hip-hop talent, mirroring the success of the celebrated Most Necessary playlist. Both podcasts are available on Greenroom, Spotify’s app reminiscent of Clubhouse, with plans to showcase weekly guests. Lorem Life has already featured rising hyperpop stars such as Glaive, ericdoa, Magdalena Bay, and most recently, Blu DeTiger.
Discussing the exciting chance to evolve the ‘genre-agnostic’ Lorem playlist into a full-fledged brand, Spotify’s senior editor Lizzy Szabo remarked, “Lorem’s identity revolves around its community of artists and fans, making it logical for Lorem listeners to have a platform where they can discuss music and engage directly with artists and one another. The playlist is designed to facilitate connections among the music it promotes and the community surrounding it. Lorem Life on Spotify Greenroom provides an opportunity for this dynamic exchange. It’s high time Lorem fans had a way to communicate with both artists and each other. This platform is unique, intimate, casual, and supportive, reflecting the playlist’s essence.” She continued, “Our aim is to create close connections between the guests on Lorem Life and our audience, while hosting discussions that resonate with both the playlist’s followers and the Spotify Greenroom community. The conversations our hosts are having live foster a deeper bond between artists and fans, nurturing the engaged audience surrounding the playlist. We’re excited to extend these intimate discussions into various cultural areas, with future guests from fashion, graphic design, environmental activism, and more—any thought-leader admired by our audience.”
On the other hand, for Most Necessary: Live, B.Dot brings a unique perspective, drawing from his experience championing emerging rappers and his extensive knowledge of hip-hop history. This enables him to facilitate insightful debates and discussions covering various hip-hop topics among both newcomers and veteran listeners. The Most Necessary playlist notably combines rising talents with established stars, a potentially challenging aspect to navigate in the live format. However, Miller commented, “The boundaries are increasingly blurred these days, as emerging artists now garner the same attention as seasoned veterans. An up-and-coming artist can certainly capture the spotlight, too. Take Baby Keem, for example—he recently performed on the main stage at Made In America and appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Each case is unique, but when an artist achieves something significant, it’s worth discussing.”
You can catch Lorem Life on Greenroom every Wednesday at 9 PM EST/6 PM PST, while Most Necessary: Live airs on Tuesdays at 9 PM EST/6 PM PST. Tune in on your iTunes for Chromebook, macOS, and iPhone; unfortunately, there is no Android version currently available.
